I'm Mik. Model, mother, moron. Future meta-magician. Former logic clinician.
My better half and I own Brainfood Bookstore in Longmont, Colorado. It is the only exclusively indie- and local-lit bookstore in the nation. We meet a lot of crazy folks.
Testimonial from a former roommate:
"Living with you was like living with a quiet little opinionated deer person who floated around like a ghost and said smart/nutso things and ate seaweed. "
I love Colorado. I love mountains. I love hiking. I read and write. I raise my children to the best of my ability. I have lupus and have defeated early-stage cancer twice, so I pretty much fully support the use of medical marijuana.

This is the worst news I have ever heard.Any of you Wichita folks know anything about this? We tried to go to the one up by 96 and Woodlawn and there are notices taped to the windows that say SEIZED and we were told brusquely to leave by some lady with some sort of state ID, and the owner lady was moving all her stuff out of the cart into her van. Anyone know what’s up?
Kansas, where “Thank God there’s some cloud cover, now we can get some relief from this heat” means it’s only 101 degrees outside.
Hey guess what. My book is now available at Watermark. It’s priced at only $12. I was able to decrease the price because Watermark doesn’t take as much a hunk out of the profit as Amazon does, haha. Anywayyyy if you’re local, you should head to Watermark Books at Douglas and Oliver and check it out! Flip through before you buy it, get a snacky at their excellent cafe, ya know.
OH MY GOD I ACTUALLY FELT THAT ONE. I FELT AN EARTHQUAKE. I FELT A REAL LIVE EARTHQUAKE, GUYS.
Well, I didn’t really feel it, I just saw my jewelry box freaking out and all the necklaces in it going back and forth.
BUT I did feel the aftershocks (or a really large jet flying overhead) the night before last. Which me and my guy were really excited about, because we missed the first one because we were fucking :/
Omg! I went to East! Idk why but I feel a really intense loyalty to schools I’ve attended. I mean I’m sure there are other high schools out there that are just as great but I feel like East is the best school ever and if you go/ went there, you are automatically superior to everyone else. Same with Wichita… I mean no it’s not Paris or anything, but of comparably-sized towns in the Midwest and other historically primarily-farming states, we have some of the best arts programs and resources. Or had (thanks, Brownback).
I mean come on, Final Friday was a spectacular idea. It wouldn’t have been that big of deal if someone started an art crawl in New York or something, but to get something like that off the ground in the Midwest is really an accomplishment. And we have Tallgrass Film Festival. Some truly amazing museums. Tons of local venues like Donut Whole and And The Wiener Is, I mean that kind of entrepreneurship is what makes the world go round. Local bands like Powerlifter and Splitlip Rayfield, plus events like First Friday, Winfield Bluegrass Festival. And magazines like Naked City and PRETTY magazine… Face it, this town is full of people who grew up in a nothing city with nothing to do, and they took it and ran with it and made it into the cultural mecca of the Midwest. Which you may say, so what, it’s still the Midwest… But if you say that then FUCK YOU.
Sorry for the rant, I just love our town =]
